Protective Behaviours - About Domestic Violence

PROTECTIVE BEHAVIOURS - About Domestic Violence
is based on the Protective Behaviours Program which is a highly effective primary child abuse prevention strategy. Protective Behaviours seeks to address issues of violence and abuse in a range of situations including the family home. Consequently, this Resource has been developed to help to address issues of domestic violence.

The activities in this Resource take the position that domestic violence is a crime and women are not responsible for the violence the user of violence is solely responsible.

The first section includes activities for adults on issues of domestic violence with an emphasis on the needs of women. The second section includes activities for children. Each section has ten parts to cover ideas about joining in group activities, expressing feelings, feeling safe, communicating, trouble in families, troubling feelings and taking a stand against violence. Each section also has evaluation strategies and resources to support the implementation of the materials.

As well as addressing issues of personal safety, this Resource aims to empower women and children to take a stand against violence. The activities in each part are intended to be
presented using the personal knowledge, experiences, creativity and stories of those presenting the activities.
